The Concorde 38 is a sailboat designed by the Danish maritime architect Steen Kjølhede together with Hans Jacobsen also from Denmark in the late seventies. The Concorde 38 is built by the Danish yard Concorde Yachting ApS.

Hull
Both the hull and the deck is made of fibreglass. Generally, a hull made of fibreglass requires only a minimum of maintenance during the sailing season.
The hull is a double hull which improves the indoor climate. Especially when the water is colder than the air in the cabin, then the double hull insulates against cold water and reduce the condense water in the cabin.
The deck is a double deck which improves the indoor climate.

Interior
The boat is equipped with 3 cabins, 5-8 berths, a galley and toilet facility.
Note: the boat has also been sold to be self-made/-interiored, which means that the quality of each boat may vary.

Rig
The boat equipped with a fractional rig. A fractional rig has smaller headsails which make tacking easier, which is an advantage for cruisers and racers, of course. The downside is that having the wind from behind often requires a genaker or a spinnaker for optimal speed.

Keel

The Concorde 38 is equipped with a fin keel. A boat with a fin keel is more manoeuvrable but has less directional stability than a similar boat with a long keel.

The keel is made of lead. Compared with iron, lead has the advantage of being 44% heavier, which allows a smaller keel and hence less water resistance and higher speed.

Concorde 38 can only enter major marinas as the draft is about 1.90 - 2.00 meter (6.23 - 6.53 ft) dependent on the load. See immersion rate below.


Engine

The boat is typically equipped with an inboard Mitsubishi engine at 20.0 hp (14 kW), which gives a max speed about 5.4 knots.

The fuel tank which is made of stainless steel has a capacity of 80.0 liters (21 US gallons, 17 imperial gallons).
